Question: When do you have ultrasounds?

Most women get an ultrasound in their second trimester at 18 to 20 weeks of pregnancy. Some also get a first-trimester ultrasound (also called an early ultrasound) before 14 weeks of pregnancy. The number of ultrasounds and timing may be different for women with certain health conditions like as asthma and obesity.

How many scans do you have when pregnant Ireland?

In Ireland, general best practice on our public health system offers two scans during pregnancy. Although some hospitals may have more limited resources in terms of scanner availability. However, normally, you will be offered a pregnancy scan at 12 weeks and then around 20 weeks.

What week is the first baby scan?

If you choose to have a dating scan, it will most probably be your first scan. You will need to get a referral from your doctor or midwife for a dating scan. Most women can instead have their first scan at 11 to 13 weeks — this is usually called the 12-week scan.
